in response to seekinghelp2012...how do you eat an elephant? one bite at a time. the answer is a snowball effect with a livable budget. key word livable. you cannot live on romen noodles and staying home. but you can eliminate that debt on your own con-solidation places are just that. even if they are ligit and mean well the power needs to lye on you. i have done this too. live and learn trust me snow ball that 500.oo a month in ten months you would have taken care of 5,000 of that debt, but at the rate it will go faster than that. because your other debts will be eliminated entirely. write down all of you debts even if there is an over due library book. 1 dollars. to largest debt home mortguage. pay only the minimum payments on all of them and focus the remaining money on the smallest or smallest 2-3 debts say a furniture bill or small credit card. and then pour the savings into next months debts and repeat. i got a easy to under stand from a chapter in the book called "Getting control: the complete guide to getting yourself out of horrible debt by troy flora available on amazon.com good luck! any qestions just ask me. i did it and you can too.
in response to seekinghelp2012...Consolidating debts is rarely the best way to go in trying to reduce your debt levels. Best thing to do is to develope a budget and a plan and stick to it.
Does anyone know of a place to consolidate debts for persons with bad credit. I would even consider peer to peer lending if there are any wealthy individuals willing to help a single, graduate student, with a full time job. I've suffered some financial misfortunes but I'm trying to get back on track. I need about $50,000 and I can comfortably pay be $450 - $550 per month. Please help in any way that you can and it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your encouragement and I will remember to pray for you as well.
I am a 49yr old father who is unemployed, receiving public assistance and going to school in the Bronx, NY. I barely make ends meet and I am very proud of my son who is doing great in school. Putting my pride in my pocket, I am asking anyone who can, to help me give a great kid (my handsome son Brandon) a Christmas gift. I am very embarrassed in having to ask, but I don't know who else to ask. If there are any Santa's out there who can help me, I would very much appreciate it. My name is Leonardo Vega and my son Brandon is 11 years old. My email is cano1362@yahoo.com and I will give you my phone number when you email me so we can talk. Thank you world, Love saves the Day!
Help! I need help on bills. I've been disabled for some time now (I had a stroke). I have a couple of bills that have gone into collections, and I was talking to a collector recently who mentioned these resources. If it's possible I would like to get these bills paid off. There are a couple that are $2000 and not being able to work to pay these off has become a problem. I don't make enough with disability to make payment arrangements in order to pay these off. I'm considered permanently disabled. I want to work, but because of the tremor I have in my left hand and very limited use of it, I'm not able.

Dear givenall,
Please do not give up hope. It is said that the times when you feel like isolating yourself is the best time to seek out the help of friends, neighbors...your church.. this forum is a start..I will lend you a listening ear any time here and I tell you to stay strong because though all may seem to be falling apart now, but this hard times too will pass and very soon one day you will laugh again amidst the embrace of your family. I am going through a tough time now, but I have learned that the tough times will not break me, I will pass through this valley of suffering and live to help other's go theough their's.

in response to tiredandlost...I hear you!
I have given and given, but when I need help I can't seem to find anyone who will help either.
I have found a great deal of fair weathered friends though.
& for family, well I thought I had some.
But I guess I don't have any or at least any who care at all.
My advice, I pray it is worth something.
If you live in a larger city area maybe you can find a church or organization who will help you.
Maybe you could find someone looking for a room mate.
If you own your house.
That is a better situation to be in.
You could share your house.
Go to the church or organization's and try to find someone who is compatible with you.
Split bills with them. Make it as inexpensive as possible for everyone.
Best of luck to you.
It is a blessing to see people like you helping others. I have always given to others right down to food out of my house. But now that it is my turn there is no one! May you be blessed in ways you never knew for caring about others.
Hi Roddy and God bless you and your wife and family. You are so close to a break through and this is not the time to let frustration win. I just heard a sermon that said "hold on to peace and God will fight for you." I believe that you are a good worker and a good guy and that you will get work. This is some practical advice - if you believe that people are in fact afraid to hire you b/c of your record - have you thought of purchasing a bond as a guarantee to your potential employer against loss - even tho' your future employer won't ever have to use it? It probably wouldn't cost much (I know you're broke and at these times even a little cost can seem like too much) but I believe it would show your level of commitment to work/employment and your empathy toward your employer. Let me know if you try this and i it works for you. Meanwhile, I'll be praying for you and your family. :)
I am a volunteer firefighter who works in corporate collections. I lost my job as a dialysis tech and took a pay cut to work at a trucking company doing corporate collections. Being out of work for a short period of time has made it very hard to keep up on my bills. And having medical issues too, with out insurance makes it rough. I am working 6 days a week to try and catch up, and i am having little success while making my health worse. i need 4 thousand and that will get me on my feet again.
in response to randomkindness...your spelling is atrocious, stop belly aching and suck it up, nobody really cares on this page, for it is full of people who want a free handout.
in response to partricia...Maybe that was not very kind. I do work and have a full time job. We do not have things to sell. We have been hit with lots of unfortunate luck. Mind you I had a tumor before and am having having more testing on Tues. We do not own a couch even.I was proud and grateful to buy a bag of used clothes at a fundraiser for 3.00. There are a lot of folks out there like us. There have been many stories about famiies such as ours on 60 mins.I chose the name Random Kindness for it makes me stronger to give in private even know we are hurting ourselves. I know it can be very easy to fall into judgemnet, but its best we dont and practise being kind to one another. Getting exersise and my faith keeps me going and I suggest it to others. Its keeps me postive, kind and loving
in response to randomkindness...get over it and perhaps you can get a job and quit whineing about all of your financial problems, and start selling the stuff that you do not need, and you wolud not be in debt if you had lived whiti your meens
Well here I am . I believe in random acts of Kindness and I practise them as well.I am a christian married wife/mother. We have 3 kids that we love dearly. My husband works 2 jobs to put food on the table and I work ful time myself. The income we make looks high but we are so in debt, we barely have any food in the frig and our accounts are empty. We got stuck with 12,000 in taxes yesterday and its not paid of course. We are already in the hole. We do not live the dream, everything in our home is falling apart. Its so frusterating because no one will help us. We have a variable rate on our mortgage. We are honest and pay for school lunches and such. I am ashamed to even post this. I am afraid people will judge us and thinking we lived large on credit. My husband feels like such a loooser for he claimed the taxes incorrectly for his job and worked extra hard for us to get by and it backfired. We are over our heads in debt. We are all so stressed out and my husband loves me so much, but he has shut down. Our oldest daughter 16 is so into her faith and is a mentor to others. I feel guility that faith is just supposed to heal us, and yes people are in worse circumstances. I feel we were honest good Christian parents and we have been in such a finacial mess for years. Many banks and organations offer to help us, but than they say we make too much or our credit is bad. Thanks for reading froma American mom
